Suggestion: Automatic Closing Panels

Suggestion:

A switch in the preferences that selects automatically closing panels. (Design Manager, Place Components, Errors, Selection Filter, etc.)

Functionality:

[checked] Automatically closing panels - when the panel loses focus it closes. (i.e. selection is made in the panel, right click into the schematic / 2D PCB and the panel closes) This saves an extra click to close the panel.

[unchecked] Automatically closing panels - works as currently designed. The panel stays open until closed.

Thanks.

Dear chuck_toddN7PTC,

The great, usable, and simple tool Eagle is no longer with us. The new Fusion360 is a completely different tool from the original. All the useful things people used for PCB design are gone or don't work properly. Autodesk doesn't respond to any feedback or responds with these two sentences: 1) It's your problem 2) Use a keyboard shortcut. I've been using Eagle for work for over 15 years. Fusion 360 cannot yet replace Eagle, and if Autodesk doesn't start addressing real people's needs, everyone will end up with the hacked version of Eagle or switch to competitors. I have about 100 ideas like yours (it really annoys me too that the side menu keeps popping up over and over onto the workspace), and not a single one has been or will be heard. Autodesk developers are programmers, not PCB designers. Someone who designs PCBs daily should explain to them what real people's needs are, and they should redesign the electrical part of Fusion accordingly. Adding components, creating libraries, side pop-up window, half-functional show button, static icons, distance measurement, layer work (multi-layered PCBs are a nightmare), etc., etc., etc... I think your request just entered the spam folder, and your name is on the blacklist.

Best regards.

Hello @marketa_prossovaT5UGA,

I can empathize with the frustration, but EAGLE is still going to be available till June of 2026. I don't know who has been recommending to use shortcuts and your problems are definitely what we aim to solve.

The right side menu can be tabbed so that it doesn't keep popping up, I never liked that behavior myself so I just tabbed everything on the left. You can do the same.

If you can provide more info about the issues you are running into I'll be happy to help.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Best Regards,
