Improvement of weld lines displaying

The displaying of weld lines is bad.

For Moldflow, weld lines can only occur at the frontiers of elements.

Then lines are not straight, some lines are missing, lines are displayed where they can't occur.

It's hard to explain to my customers that a such basic result is not reliable.

I'm often oblige to redraw the weld lines by hand on the pictures.

Isn't it possible to get a better displaying of lines not using the elements frontiers ?

Hi Pascal,

Yes, there has been a issue. Similar problems i have faced & i cant take liberty of fine meshing due to time constraint & element numbers, but issue seem to be reduced with fine mesh a little.

I updated my simulations with MPI2017-3 using Dual Domain and 3D meshings.

With DD, there are 4 lines in excess. Only 1 with 3D.

The weld lines around the 4 holes are well detected. But with 3D, they are too long.

It is now 4 and a half years since I posted this request.

It has been in the lead for 2 months with 30 votes.

I guess the problem of weld lines is not easy to solve.

But, I hope that at least some of the defects can be suppressed.

I redid tests with AMI2018.2 on a new simple model.

As before, I get a few less errors with the 3D mesh.

I asked an improvement of weld lines 5 years ago.

It is now in the top voted ideas since 1 year.

I have doubts this improvement will be realized someday.

Especially, when I see that only 4 ideas were implemented last year while 94 proposals were made.

Last week, I tested the weld surface movements simulation.

Like for the weld lines on the sinks, Moldflow makes important errors: it predicts weld surfaces where they don’t occur and forget some others. In addition, the display is too coarse. I could not do anything with this result.

I would also add the capability of coloring the weldlines based upon the temperture at melt front when they meet and/or the pressure when they meet or pressure max reached during the cycle.
